Bespoke Training

I am an experienced and intuitive trainer, having delivered much training in Emotional Literacy to various professionals in Health and Education. I have also worked with counselling colleagues on Working Creatively with Clients and Working with Children and Teenagers. My training sessions are experiential and participatory in nature, building on trainees experience and encouraging reflection, building their confidence to use what they know and developing their own creativity and intuition.

Supervision

I have much experience of Clinical Supervision from my years in the NHS and continue to believe in the value of reflective practice. Regular supervision can facilitate much learning and self-awareness in giving the practitioner space to reflect, review and renew. This could be the process of building self confidence in existing skills or expanding their knowledge base.
I use a person-centred approach, aiming to work collaboratively with the practitioner or with groups. This can be a challenging but also a supportive process.

I have a Diploma in Supervision from CSTD Bath

End of Life Doula

I am currently studying towards becoming an End of Life Doula/Companion. I have long been associated with the hospice movement and am hugely sympathetic to its philosophy and admiring of the staff involved. The dying and death of a close family member or friend can be very distressing for both parties, but also complicated by unexpressed feelings. Anger, regret, frustration, guilt, relief, denial, not knowing what to say - all or any of these feelings can accompany and be torture when facing this situation.

Grief is a very individual process - being different for everyone, depending on the relationship with the dying person. Some of the complications and distress could be eased with understanding support - helping both parties say what they want to say, do what they want to do or simply be together, feel close and accept what is happening. My intention and hope ,in pursuing this study is to , wherever possible, support and enable the dying person, their family and friends have the courage to embrace and accept death as a normal part of life. Where death is particularly shocking as in the case of babies and children, or an unexpected death, I would offer to listen to the initial distress and possibly signpost to more specific support.

I see this work as an extension of my humanistic, compassionate practice as a counsellor and in many cases there would be no charge for this.

...this approach to dying helps the patient and family be more in control of how the dying process will unfold
